Power-to-price framing

BMW i7 carries 536 bhp at roughly RM 4.7 per horsepower per day. There is no rev range and no gearchange — the full torque figure is available from a standstill, which is a genuinely strange sensation the first time.

Held on your card, not charged. It scales with what this car costs to repair rather than with what it costs to rent — a forged wheel and a bespoke tyre size are the reason the figure looks like that.

About BMW

Straight-six torque, rear-drive geometry, and the best gearbox calibration in Munich's history.

BMW's entire reputation rests on one component: the inline six. Six cylinders in a straight line are inherently, perfectly balanced in both primary and secondary orders, which means no balance shafts, no vibration, and a smoothness that a V6 fundamentally cannot replicate. Munich has built them continuously since 1933 and has never had a compelling reason to stop. The modern B58 and S58 units are turbocharged, which costs some of the throttle immediacy of the old atmospheric engines, but they make torque from 1,800 rpm and pull cleanly to 7,200, which on a Malaysian road matters enormously.

RM / bhp is the daily self-drive rate divided by the manufacturer’s brake horsepower, to one decimal. It is a blunt instrument — it ignores tyre width, kerb weight and where the torque actually lives — and it is still the fastest way to see what a badge is charging you. Power bars are scaled against 575 bhp.
