Power-to-price framing

Land Rover Defender carries 395 bhp at roughly RM 5.8 per horsepower per day. Forced induction means peak torque arrives low and stays flat, so overtakes happen in whatever gear you are already in.

Held on your card, not charged. It scales with what this car costs to repair rather than with what it costs to rent — a forged wheel and a bespoke tyre size are the reason the figure looks like that.

About Land Rover

The Defender: a genuine off-road chassis that now rides better than most saloons.

The original Land Rover was sketched in sand on a Welsh beach in 1947 as a stopgap agricultural vehicle, and the Defender name it eventually carried became shorthand for uncompromising off-road capability across seven decades and most of the planet's difficult terrain. The current car is a complete reinvention — monocoque rather than ladder frame, independent suspension rather than live axles — and it caused predictable outrage among people who had never actually had to drive an old one three hundred kilometres in a day.

RM / bhp is the daily self-drive rate divided by the manufacturer’s brake horsepower, to one decimal. It is a blunt instrument — it ignores tyre width, kerb weight and where the torque actually lives — and it is still the fastest way to see what a badge is charging you. Power bars are scaled against 429 bhp.
